These are a few of my favorite films

Every year or so, I update the list of my 20 favorite films. Some movies enter the list, some movies leave, and others are shuffled around.

My list, as of now, is not much different from the one I had a year ago. I made one notable decision: a film must be at least 10 years old to be considered, thereby proving that it has endured the test of time. This caused "City of God" and the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy to be taken off, but only for now.

The list looks like this:

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
2. Apocalypse Now (1979)
3. 8 1/2 (1963)
4. The Godfather (1972)
5. Barry Lyndon (1975)
6. The Night of the Hunter (1955)
7. All About Eve (1950)
8. A Clockwork Orange (1971)
9. Goodfellas (1990)
10. Star Wars (1977)
11. The Producers (1968)
12. Grave of the Fireflies (1988)
13. Underground (1995)
14. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
15. Vertigo (1958)
16. Pulp Fiction (1994)
17. Wings of Desire (1987)
18. The Black Stallion (1979)
19. The Bicycle Thief (1948)
20. The Battle of Algiers (1966)

Hey, John, I really like your list. I'm disappointed that Shompy shut down . . . I'd really like to update mine. I recently watched The Shining and I desperately want to revise my rule and add it to my top ten, in addition to 2001. Hope all is good - I never see you online anymore! In fact, I was going to ask if you had an e-mail . . . I'm sure you're probably busy, but I told you if I ever started finishing screenplay concepts I had, I'd love to have you read them. I finally finished a concept I've been working on for five years, and now I have the fire to keep going: I'm going to co-write a comedy with a friend, start writing a very complex drama in the beginning of '09, and I may shoot a short film in February of next year. Anyways, if you'd like to read it, shoot me an e-mail. I'm desperate for feedback and comments. I'm at: jamaul1138@hotmail.com

Hope to hear from ya.
