Done and done

"The Fantom" was shot Sunday night with an Oscar-worthy performance by Heather McCauley. My thanks to her for putting up with what is certainly not an entertaining process. I think the movie turned out well... could benefit from some editing, but we're not allowed to edit our first projects. Oh, and it was about a possessed-fan that eventually got the better of its owner. The End. Goodnight.

Shooting

I'm shooting my first 290 movie tonight. I have no idea how it's going to turn out. All I can tell you is that the villain in the film is this ------>

Spontaneous John!

I just bought tickets to see The New Pornographers without really thinking about it. I usually think these things through for a very long time, but... nope, not this time.

So it's Thurs, Sept. 29 at the Henry Fonda Theatre. I got 2 tickets, so who's interested?

More Music

I really am procrastinating now. Having posted New Pornographers, I realized I'd feel really bad if I didn't say anything about the two best albums of 2005 so far. So here they are...

Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

What can be said? Each song is brillaint. Wait, strike that, all of the songs save for one is brillaint. The one song that isn't up to par is "Banquet," which ironically is their best-known song thanks to KROQ and "The OC." Um...they're British, in some ways are like Franz Ferdinand, and you should check them out.

Best Songs - "Helicopter," "Blue Light," "This Modern Love," and "So Here We Are"

Sufjan Stevens - Illinois

Simply beautiful, epic, and haunting. Stevens not only captures the state's history, but he figures out a way to depict the most precious life situations with a few words or notes. With 21 tracks, it's a long album, and yet it never feels its length.

Best Songs - "Come On! Feel the Illinoise," "Chicago," "The Man of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts," and "The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us!"

Best Movie Theaters in LA

Music

Okay, I'm going to be talking about music a lot. If you ever want to hear a song or album that I mention, just let me know on AIM. Oh, and I just found out that I can host mp3's, so I may just provide a direct link to certain songs.

Current Obsession: The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema

Awesomely fun album, and "The Bleeding Heart Show" may be the song of the year. I've always liked New Pornographers... Mass Romantic was good, and Electric Version was even better. Their only problem was that each song would be so energetic that listening to the entire album could be exhausting. But Twin Cinema avoids this flaw and has to be their best work yet. Each listen through the album makes you appreciate it all the more. It's not a masterpiece... they are still lacking some depth to their lyrics. But still, this thing is a blast to listen to.

Best Songs - "The Bleeding Heart Show," "Falling Through Your Clothes," and "Stacked Crooked"

A more formal introduction

So yeah, I thought I'd never get one of these things. I have always thought they were silly. But I caved in... we'll see how long it lasts.

I can tell you that I won't be pouring my heart and soul into this. What I mean is that this blog won't contain secret life confessions or how my mood is on a scale of 1 to 10. It won't be a diary.

Basically, this is for posting things I think are neat... links, movie reviews, music reviews, humor, and whatnot. And yeah, I may talk about my life every now and then, but I'll keep it to a minimum.

So, without a further ado, here we go.

So this is my blog

It was 2:59AM on August 27, 2005 when John's blog was born... remember this time and date well, for it will be of great importance one day.

Now to bed.
