Interesting. I disagree with you on almost most of these. Even if we picked the same "will win" I disagree with you on most of the "should wins." esp. with the bes animated feature.
I'm curious to hear what your "Should Win" picks are. And we already know about you disliking the best film of the year. ;-)
as far as my "should wins"..."Food, Inc." for best doc, "White Ribbon" for Cinematography, Sound mixing "Transformers" (say what you want about the film, the sound in it was amazing), and a couple other ones. There are a few where I wish it would go another way but just don't think there is anything else in the category that's better (i.e. both of the acting categories).
And are you talking about "Avatar" or your ridiculous liking of "Mr. Fox"?
I liked Food Inc., but appreciated The Cove a little bit more. White Ribbon's cinematography did nothing for me... I feel as if its acclaim comes solely from it being filmed in black and white. As for Transformers, all I can remember is it being loud and giving me a headache.
I'm surprised you didn't call me out for saying that District 9's editing deserves to win the Oscar, since I know how much you inexplicably hated that film's editing.
And I was talking about my ridiculous liking of Mr. Fox. I still smile when thinking about it. :)
I will never understand why people like Avatar so much.
I did hate "District 9." That doesn't mean I can't appreciate the technical aspect of it. It was the story that made me want to walk out of the theatre. However, now that I think about it, the pacing of the film is partial the result of editing...so yeah...I'm gonna call you out now. How dare you John! HOW DARE YOU!
Ahhh...I feel better now.
Haha, yeah, all I remember was you complaining about the movie's "horrible" pacing, which I thought was odd because I found District 9's editing to be a wonderful example of how to edit and pace an action film. Unlike Transformers, for instance, you could always tell what was happening spatially within the frame, and the integration of documentary footage and news reporting was riveting.
Alas, you don't have to worry about District 9 winning any Oscars tonight.
